Chief Minister of the state Vijay Rupani had announced for providing a second round of free food grain distribution for APL-1 card holders on 1st May, 2020.
The decision covered round 61 lakh families i.e 2.5 crore APL-1 card holders. The distribution began on 7th May, 2020. 25 lakh families have already been covered under this except the card holders in Ahmedabad.
Providing details of the same, Secretary to CM Ashwani Kumar said, “ The state government will cover a total of 30 lakh APL-1 card beneficiaries by today evening. Around 30% well to do APL-1 card holders have given up their privileges based on the Chief Minister’s appeal. The free food grain distribution is done in accordance with safety protocols.”
11th May, 2020 is the last day for availing free food grains. Card holders with the last digit as 0 or 9 will be able to avail the food grains tomorrow. The distribution of food grains will continue on 12th May, 2020 for those card holders who could not avail the food grains on the assigned dates due to unavoidable circumstances. The dates for free food grain distribution for Ahmedabad will be announced very soon.
Talking about the pro-farmer oriented decision of the CM, the Secretary said, “ The Chief Minister had announced to reopen APMCs in Gujarat from 15th April, 2020 in order to ensure that the farmers are able to sell their produce and earn a decent revenue through the same. A majority of the APMCs became operational by 20th April, 2020. 32 lakh 51 thousand quintals of agri produce has been sold by farmers so far. This includes 11 lakh 28 thousand quintals of wheat, 7 lakh 86 thousand quintals of castor , 1 lakh 56 thousand quintals of cottonseed, 1 lakh 66 thousand quintals of mustard, 1 lakh 20 thousand quintals of gram and 61 thousand 660 quintals of groundnuts.
