Free food grain distribution for 68 lakh families

Chief Minister of the state Vijay Rupani has been sensitive towards the poor and middle class amidst the lockdown. In order to ensure their ease and welfare, he has introduced a number of measures.

Providing details of the same, Secretary to CM Ashwani Kumar said,

“68.80 lakh families, which includes 65.40 lakh families under NFSA and 3.40 lakh non NFSA families, will get free food grains for the second consecutive month across Gujarat, except for the city of Ahmedabad. The food grain distribution will begin from tomorrow i.e 17th May, 2020 and last till 26th May, 2020. The ration card holders will be divided based on the last digits of their ration card. Around 3 .36 crore people will be covered under this.”

In addition to that, these families will also get an additional of 3.5 kg wheat and 1.5 kg rice per person and 1 kg pulses per family under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package.

The free food grain distribution will take place keeping in mind the necessary safety protocols like social distancing, using masks, avoiding over crowding etc. The grains will be distributed from government approved fair price shops.
