Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that it is a matter of joy that a new step has been taken for the Ken-Betwa Link National Project on the launch of the Catch the Rain campaign. This agreement will help to realize the dream of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Prime Minister was inaugurating ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan – Catch the Rain’ through video conferencing on World Water Day. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated in the virtual programme from Mantralaya, Bhopal. Chief Minister Chouhan signed a tripartite contract between the Central Government, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh for the Ken-Betwa Link National Project.

Chief Minister Chouhan said that today is a dream come true for Madhya Pradesh and Bundelkhand in particular. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had a dream of connecting the rivers of the country. If the river basins which have more water are linked to river basins with less water, then the water will not go waste and it can be used for irrigation and drinking water purposes. This dream vision has been realized by our glorious and visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Nadi Jodo Pariyojana is one of the best examples of Sahakari Sanghvad (Cooperative Federalism).

Chief Minister Chouhan said that this project will irrigate 8 lakh 11 thousand hectare unirrigated area in nine districts of Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. About 41 lakh people will have easy access to drinking water. The contribution of former Chief Minister Sushri Uma Bharti in this project is particularly noteworthy. According to the estimates of the year 2017-18, the cost of the project was about Rs 35 thousand 111 crores, the present value of which is much more. Ninety percent of the total cost will be borne by the central government and the remaining 10 percent will be borne by the states. This project will bring mass revolution in Bundelkhand. The land of Bundelkhand is very fertile, which continued to be the victim of drought due to water shortage. This water will change the picture and fate of the people of Bundelkhand. This project will become the lifeline of Bundelkhand. It will bring prosperity and raise the standard of living of the people of Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Sagar, Damoh, Vidisha, Shivpuri and Raisen districts.

Expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister  Chouhan said that as a result of Modi’s vision and mission, the project is moving towards completion. He thanked the Union Jalshakti Minister  Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and congratulated the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath for the contract.

Union Jalshakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that 30 links have been identified for interlinking of rivers in the country. The first of these is the implementation of the Ken-Betwa link. Prime Minister Modi has given the mantra of ‘Catch the rain where it falls and when it falls’. People’s participation in the observance of this mantra will lead to water revolution in the country.
