The Hundred, England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) much-anticipated 100-ball cricket competition. Since then, 16 matches have been played by women’s and men’s teams across 8 venues.
The action-packed competition has eight women’s and men’s teams from major cities across England and Wales to play 68 matches over five weeks. With each team comprising three overseas players, some of the best world-class players have been brought into the competition including Indian players across women’s teams – Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma.
Smriti Mandhana’s 61* against Welsh Fire yesterday gave Southern Brave their second consecutive win this season. Even Harmanpreet’s blazing strikes in the inaugural match against Oval Invincibles have become the one of the highlights of Manchester Originals’ performance so far. But the star player of the inaugural week has been Jemimah Rodrigues who is currently the highest scorer of the season across both women’s and men’s teams.
In her first match this season for the Northern Superchargers, Rodrigues hit a magnificent 17 boundaries and a six, scoring an unbeaten 92, to chase down Welsh Fire’s target of 131 in 85 balls at the Headingley.
The 20-year old Indian batter continued her impressive form in The Hundred scoring 60 off 41 deliveries, including 10 fours, which helped Northern Superchargers beat Trent Rockets by 27 runs.
Rodrigues is now set to compete against Indian teammate Harmanpreet in Manchester Originals vs Northern Superchargers. In India, FanCode has bagged exclusive 4-year broadcast rights for The Hundred.
